about the show

Here in the Land of Enchantment marijuana is freely available to enjoy, but nearly a century ago things were looking dim for the plant. Propaganda like the cult film "Reefer Madness" told us it was a bad influence on our children. Though this campaign to make pot illegal proved successful for quite a while, today we can laugh at the ludicrous nature of that particular film. With this in mind, Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy (Heathers: the Musical) were inspired to create the stage musical comedy Reefer Madness: The Musical which pokes fun at the very notion that even a single puff of Marijuana can turn you (yes, YOU!) into a murderer!

This is the story of Jimmy Harper (Tony Madsen), his sweetheart Mary Lane (Skye McHarney), and how they are brought under the influence of the villainous Jack (Vince Montoya) and his "Reefer Denezins" Mae (Emily Lindsay), Ralph (Daniel Bautista) and Sally (Elvides Nez). The innocent youth eventually succumb to the power of marijuana and learn the deadly consequences of their actions. All this told to us by the Lecturer (Zee Winningham)

Their story is brought to life on the stage of the Historic Lobo Theater on 4/20 weekend (4/19-4/21)!

MEET THE CREW

BRANDON SCOTT JENSEN
director

The irony of me directing this as my first licenced musical is not lost on me. But honestly, for many reasons I honestly feel very confident in my skills to do so. I am an internationally award-winning director of stage, screen and animation. I also apparently build and operate puppets for my show because I can't seem to stay the hell off the stage after playing Jafar in Twisted.

LILY SANDERS
stage manager

Lilith Rose Sanders has been a crew member for “The Skokie Detective Charter School” and “50 Plays for 50 Presidents”. Lily is a writer and aspiring script supervisor. Thanks to Brandon Scott Jensen for the opportunity to return to theatre, and Skye for the confidence to take the leap.

FINLEY HAINES
LIGHTING DESIGN

Finley was the lighting director for UW's best and only improv troupe, musical theater club, and various other projects. They also have knowledge of the physics of light waves to bring to the table. They're excited to light up reefer...madness.
